A Celebration and a Path Forward

A special program featuring conversations with Preston Padden, TV executive, Margaret Sullivan, journalist, Ruth Ben-Ghiat, historian and celebrated author, and Art Belendiuk, attorney.
Moderated by renowned former ABC journalist Ron Claiborne and produced by Emmy award-winning former network TV producer Susan Farkas, the event will celebrate MAD’s work and highlight the importance of journalism and civic engagement to our democracy.
Milo Vassallo, executive director of MAD will also provide updates and actions to strengthen and improve the news media that is part of our nation’s critical infrastructure.
This event kicks off a fundraising campaign to help MAD professionalize so it can expand its outreach and impact.












Bios
Ron Claiborne -
Preston Padden - Top network TV executive who helped Rupert Murdoch create the Fox broadcast network but now says its stations are purposely sowing disinformation that harms the U.S. and has proof Murdoch knows it.
Margaret Sullivan - The fifth public editor of The New York Times, a former media columnist for The Washington Post, author of the book Newsroom Confidential, and a former local newspaper executive. She has an inside perspective on the troubling decline of journalism and lots of ideas about how the profession can fight its way back.
Ruth Ben-Gihat - Historian and professor at New York University who is an expert on authoritarianism, propaganda, and democracy protection. She says the United States faces a "democratic emergency" driven by an authoritarian playbook that mirrors historical strongmen like Mussolini.
Art Belendiuk - Attorney leading MAD legal actions asking the FCC to deny Fox broadcast licenses due to purposely airing false and misleading information about the 2020 election.
